Eggs are one of the most versatile foods and can be prepared in many ways. They are most commonly eaten for breakfast or lunch but can be enjoyed anytime. Not to mention they are packed with protein to build strong bones and muscles.

You can hard boil an egg or soft boil an egg.

Hard boiled eggs.

Let the eggs sit for 10 - 20 minutes at room temperature before throwing them in the pot or pan for a better boil.

Put the eggs into the pot or pan but leave them sufficient room so they do not bump into eachother and crack.

Bring the water to a high bubble boil, cover, and reduce the temperature to bring to a simmer.

Simmer a regular sized egg for about 12 minutes. Simmer a smaller sized egg for 11 minutes and a extra large egg for about 13 minutes.

It doesn't have to be to the second.

Voila! You have a hardboiled egg done to perfection to enjoy at a later date.

Most people like them chilled to eat whole, put in salads, make egg salad with for a sandwich, ect.. The list is endless.

Soft Boiled Eggs

Same directions as above just the boiling times have changed.

For a softly boiled runny egg yolk boil for about 5 minutes.

For a medium boiled somewhat firm creamy egg yolk boil for about 7 - 8 minutes.

And thats it!

Recipe Tip! "Egg in a cup"

Take a medium boiled egg and let cool for about 4-5 minutes at room temperature. Partially peel the shell and scoop remaining egg out with a spoon and put into a cup. Place about a tablespoon of butter, some salt and pepper in the cup and lightly mix break up the larger pieces. Then eat the delicious egg in a cup. Preparation Tip! The fresher the egg the harder it is to peel the shell after boiling. Using eggs that are closer to their expiration date are recommended for the best results. Also we recommend boiling eggs for no less than 4 minutes.



How Long Do You Boil Potatoes

For 10 to 14 potatoes take about 3 liters or 5 pints of cold water and add a table spoon of salt.

Peel skin and remove eyes, specs, and bad spots.

Approximate Boil Times:

Small to Medium Sized Potatoes ( 2 1/2 inches or mm wide) - 15 to 20 minutes.

Large Sized Potatoes (greater than 2 1/2 inches or mm wide - 30 to 35 minutes.

Cooking Tip! Times above are approximate and potatoes come in many different qualities and sizes. Toward the end of the recommended boil times use a fork and poke the potatoes to see if they are tender and the fork penetrates easily. If so then they are done. You do not want to over boil potatoes or they may become watery and waxy.



How Long Do You Boil Corn on the Cob

Remove husks from the cob.

Bring water to a rolling boil. Add corn on the cob. Water must cover entire cob and wait till the water comes to a boil again.

Cover the pot and turn off the heat. Approximate boil time after turning off the heat will be approximately: 2 minutes

Let the Corn on the cob sit in the pot for about 10 to 14 minutes after turning off the heat. That’s it! Remove the corn and serve with butter or margarine and your choice of seasonings. A little salt and some pepper is a great addition.

Cooking and Preparation Tips! Don't buy corn that has the husk removed and using fresh corn within 24 hours of purchase is best. Over boiling makes the Corn on the Cob tough. Do not salt the water.



How Long Do You Boil Lobster

Bring water to a boil in a pot.

Slowly add Lobster head first to the boiling water. Make sure they are entirely covered.

Bring water back to a boil.

Approximate boil time: 10 minutes for one pound & 3 additional minutes for each additional pound

If the lobster antennae pull out easy you know it's done. Voila! Serve with a cup of melted butter.

Recipe Tip! For a different flavor you can add a cup of white wine to the water before boiling.



How Long Do You Boil Shrimp

Add water to a pot and put the heat on high. Immediately add the shrimp even before it boils.

Stir every 10 to 20 seconds.

Approximate Boiling Time: When some (1 or 2) of the shrimp start to float.

No specific time just when a couple start to float.

To serve chilled remove the shrimp and throw them onto ice.

Drain the excess water and chill for about 15 minutes. Then serve with cocktail sauce or other sauces of your choosing.

To serve hot remove shrimp, strain to remove extra water, and serve!

Recipe Tip! Use wild caught shrimp instead of farm raised and add 4 tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning to the water with a dash of vinegar.



How Long Do You Boil Chicken

Thaw chicken before you boil. Add chicken to pot of boiling water.

Bone-In Chicken pieces. Approximate Boiling Time: 1 hour

Boneless Chicken pieces.

Approximate Boiling Time: 45 minutes

Whole Chicken (approximately 3 pounds)

Approximate Boiling Time: 90 minutes ( hour and a half)

Cooking Tip! Chicken is fully cooked when the internal temperature is 160 degrees Fahrenheit ( 71 degrees Celsius) or make an incision and make sure there is not pink. Recipe Tip! Boiled boneless chicken pieces are pretty tasteless. To add flavor add chopped carrots, onions, celery, bay leaves, rosemary and 4 vegetable bouillon cubes. And that's it!
