Tips for Staying Cool: #1 Dress accordingly. Wearing thin, baggy, and light colored clothes can do wonders. Thin and baggy clothing allow more “breathing” between your body and the air.

Light colored clothing doesn’t absorb most of the suns rays as compared to darker clothing. Also put on the least amount of clothes as possible. For example if you are a man go shirtless or if you’re a women wear short shorts. Don’t take this too far in public though! In the comfort of your own home you can go as far as you like.

Tips: #2Cover the Windows.When the sun is directly shining on one side of your home draw the blinds. This will reflect those hot rays from warming the indoor air rapidly. Especially the East and West facing windows.

Tips: #3If you are one of the lucky ones who has an air conditioner use it on those especially hot days. Paying a couple bucks in electricity to stay safe, comfortable, and cool is well worth it. Turn your air on earlier in the day so as to get the everything including the air in your home down in temperature before it starts getting real hot. This is more efficient and saves energy.

Tips for Staying Cool: #5Always keep ice and soft ice packs ready to go in your freezer during the hot season. Simply sucking on ice chips or applying an ice pack wrapped in a thin cloth to the back of your neck or on your wrist can do wonders in cooling you down. Your tongue, back of your neck, and wrists have larger veins and arteries running through them. Cooling these areas down will cool your whole body down.

Tips: #6Use water! There are many things you can do with cool water from the sink. You can splash it on your face, wet a piece of clothing and put it on, fill your tub and get in, or soak your feet. Cool water will give you instant relief and last for an hour or two.

Tips: #7Sweat away. I know this is what your trying to avoid but sweating is the human mechanism for naturally cooling a body down. When you start to sweat seek out a breeze or fan. You will surely get cooled down when the moving air hit’s the sweat on your body instantly turning it to vapor.

Tips: #8Keep the air flowing. Turn on fans and open those windows so that you can get a breeze in your home. If the air is moving outside you want it moving inside instead of laying stagnant. By opening certain doors and windows and positioning fans in the right place you can create a cool breeze that will sweep through your home.

Tips: #9Try to keep those high heat sources in your home such as ovens, toasters, and incandescent lights off. These all emit tons of heat and will only be hurting your cause. Eat colder food that day.

Tips for Staying Cool: #10Try a little rubbing alcohol. Taka little amount of ordinary rubbing alcohol and put it on a portion of a cloth. Lightly apply it to your face (be careful not to get it in your eyes) and seek a breeze or fan and you will create an instant vaporization action that will surely cool you down.

Tips: #11 Stay put. The less activity you do, the cooler you will be. Moving around burns calories which emits heat. Try to keep any physical activity to a minimum.

Tips: #12Go to your local hardware store and buy a water misting apparatus. They usually come as a piece that can fit on the end of your hose. Use this to blow mist onto yourself in a shaded area and feel the relief. An even cheaper alternative is to buy an empty spray bottle from the local grocery store or walmart, fill it with cool water and spray away.

Tips: #13 It is always cooler on floors that are closer to the ground. So if you have a home that has more than one story or better yet a basement stay as low as you can go. Heat rises and the farther from the ground you are the quicker everything heats up including walls and ceilings.

Tips for Staying Cool: #14If you just want to bask in air conditioning try a cheap way to get away. You can go to a matinee, the library, the mall, wherever. All these places keep their customers cool!
