Tips on Grilling Steaks

Here you will find a few Tips on Grilling Steaks that are sure to make your next grill out better than the last!

A grilled juicy steak is one of the best meals in the world.

Let’s get to it.

Tips on Grilling Steaks

Tips on Grilling Steaks #1: Heat & Types.

For rare or medium rare you want to turn your grill to the hottest positions. This will sear the steak and not let it cook to well through. For medium to medium well you want to turn your grill on the medium + position.

For good steaks on the grill most do not cook “well-done”, but if someone in your family or group needs it this way setting the grill to medium will allow you to cook it through without charring the outside.

The best steaks are as follows:

New York Strip Sirloin.

Porterhouse. With this steak the larger side of the bone is the sirloin and on the small side is a tenderloin piece of meat.

T-Bone but don’t cut to thin! Around 1 ½ to 2 ¼ inches is best.

Tenderloin is the most expensive and definitely the most tender but has the mildest taste of all the steaks because it is very low on fat. Fat gives your steaks flavor!

London Broil. These are cheaper but still very good steaks and are best at a thickness of 1 ½ to 2 inches.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #2: Sharp Knives.

One of the best tips on this page is to have sharp steak knives. Having good steaks knives has the eater thinking they have a good tender piece of steak on their plate!

It also makes the eating experience a little more enjoyable as you don’t have to saw away for every bite of that delicious steak.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #3: To salt or not to salt?

Salting a steak does draw-out fluids and makes the steak slightly less tender BUT it also brings the natural flavor out in the fullest.

You’ll have to try it both ways to see how you and your end eaters like it. Keep in mind this salt tip though: Use very little salt and apply it to the steak right before putting it onto the hot grill.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #4: Hold up.

Don’t just pull the steak out of the fridge and throw it onto the grill. You want to season the steaks and allow them to come to room temperature before throwing them on. The most simple way to great seasoning is to just mix some pepper in with vegetable oil and coat the steak with that.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #5: Doneness.

People do it a couple of different ways such as cutting the meat to look inside or poking it to feel softness of the steak but there is a better way, measure the temperature!

To take the guessing out of it and come out of the day with the best cooked piece of steak to the desired doneness use an instant read digital thermometer.

They are simple and well worth the investment to come out with great steaks for the rest of you grilling life. Below are the general internal temperatures (in Fahrenheit) for your desired doneness using the digital thermometer.

Rare: 135 degrees Medium Rare: 150 degrees Medium: 160 degrees Medium Well: 165 degrees Well Done: 170 degrees

Remember when you take the steak off the grill it continues cooking for another couple of minutes so take the steak off soon after you think it is ready.

Now it’s time to throw those big juicy steaks onto the grill.

Like a Professional A little tip just to make you look like a master griller. Pick out the best looking side of the steak and throw that side on the grates.

This will be the side that will have the seared grilling marks on it and the side you want facing up on people‘s dinner plates later on.

Also after about 2 minutes rotate your steak about 75 degrees and this will “brand” the steak giving it the professional looking cris-cross pattern.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #6: Turn Only Once.

Take your readings and turn when you reach the temperatures above. Only turn the steak ONCE.

Tips on Grilling Steaks #7: Let it rest.

Don’t serve the steak right away. Let the steak “rest” for about 5-10 minutes to let the juices run back into the meat. You will surely have a juicier steak doing this.

Now look at that good looking steak, grilled to perfection, with compliments flying left and right.

We hope you enjoyed our Tips on Grilling Steaks and truly hope your steak turns out just the way you want it.

The more steaks you grill the better you will get of course. Enjoy!
